| The REGIMENTAL SERGEANT MAJOR is the senior Warrant
officer in the Battalion, and as such holds an important position of
authority within the Regimental organization. To many young soldiers
within any Infantry Battalion the 'R.S.M.' was somebody to be avoided
at all costs, and it appeared to many a soldier that all 'R.S.M.s' are
born old. The following images are an attempt to record the
Regimental Sergeant Majors of the 1st Battalion Duke of Edinburgh's
Royal Regiment (Berkshire & Wiltshire) for historical interest,
and to illustrate to those soldiers that believed the R.S.M. was born
yesterday that they have indeed soldiered in the past. |
