The 1st Battalion the Gloucestershire
Regiment spent 4 years (1981 -1985) in the Garrison of Tidworth. It was
anything but a quiet posting as the Battalion took part in many exercises
in places such as Denmark (Twice) Canada, Kenya, Gibraltar, Edinburgh, and
a six month tour of Cyprus Sector 2 U.N. Buffer Zone, and Dhekelia
Garrison as part of the United Nations Peace keeping Forces. Whilst at
Tidworth they also formed the spearhead Battalion and had the unusual task
of defending Greenham Common Missile Base against Demonstrators. They left
Tidworth in 1986 to Garrison Wavel Barracks Berlin for the next two years.
